This article will be brief. It may be as brief as the Zimmerman trial itself. It will be short for if I climb upon my soap box and begin ranting I will not stop and it will get nasty enough to get me banned from The Vine.
After a deliberation a week and a half shorter than anticipated the jury found him not guilty of second degree murder/manslaughter.
The man should be in prison.
I break down this case as follows. You tell me if there is any relation between my explanation and what we know to be fact in this case.
I am a hunter. When I go hunting I get my gun and ammunition. I take them to my car and proceed to drive where ever my chosen wild game is. I load my gun. I either stalk or lay in wait for that creature. I kill that creature.
George Zimmerman was hunting.
While the defense plan of using Stand Your Ground was taken out of the equation some media outlets have stated it was used in an undertone to justify this mans actions. Stand Your Ground does not apply here. Martin did not pursue or engage Zimmerman until he felt threatened. The fact is that Treyvon Martin could have easily used SYG as a legitimate defense had he killed Zimmerman. He was the one being followed. He was the one facing the threat. He was merely walking home. Zimmerman lost any right to employ SYG when he tucked his gun in his waist band, got in his car and followed what he considered to be a "suspicious young black man", got out of the car, followed, then directly confronted Martin. He did so even after the 911 dispatcher advised him that it was not necessary. Zimmermans barely concealed racism was obvious in the statements he made to that same dispatcher. It is my opinion that Treyvon Martin did what anyone would have done. If you were being pursued and confronted what would you do? What if, as is very likely, Martin saw the gun in the older mans belt? I don't know about you but I would certainly try and defend myself.
Then what about the realm of questions not asked during this so-called trial? First all evidence that would have proven Zimmermans racist streak were disallowed. Second, why was it never questioned as to how, with an arrest record up to and including domestic assault, Mr. Zimmerman was able to obtain a concealed carry gun permit? Why wasn't the total mishandling of the investigation not brought in to play?
I feel it coming on...the anger is rising in me.
George Zimmerman is guilty of taking the life of a seventeen year old boy!
Yet today he is a free man. If, and only if, he is indicted federally might there be one more chance for justice to be done. I would not hold my breath. Once again the justice system has let us all down.
My thoughts and many prayers go out to the family of Treyvon Martin. It may be little consolation after the loss of a son but he is with God now, where no one will ever hurt him and no one will ever again judge him for the color of his skin. I am so very sorry for your loss.
