Well, that settles it...at least to a point. No more articles from the much loved (or despised or misunderstood depending on who is posting a reply) Michael R. Chase. I am far from the most popular author on The Vine but I've always garnered replies from people who've read my work.
Sometimes it's of the nice variety..."Well done, M.R. Chase, good to see..."
Other times it's more along the lines of..."Grow up!", or "Stop talking out of your arse! You're a complete idiot to think...", or "GOD what a waste in kilobytes!", or "M.R CHASE I WANT TO BEAR YOUR CHILDREN...". Okay, I made up the last, but I am mainly a fiction writer!
As I stated in an earlier column I am not a big fan of change, or at least drastic change. When The Vine went to this "Nations" thing even my closest friends and family can almost not find my work. It was too much change, too soon. I do not write for praise or applause. I like making people think. I like making people react. I like making people feel. That can not happen when people can not find my words.
I am not saying I'm leaving permanently. I'm not going to get all hoity-toity and indignant. I need to find a more easily accessed venue for my work. I was first published nationally because a certain on-line version of a popular Firefighter trade magazine published a short item I'd written about the death of a man I served with. I have achieved recognition nationally in certain circles but I still want to be able to reach out to people directly.
So, for now, farewell.
Really nice guy
